ERG Development Resources and Tools
Employee resource groups (also known as ERGs, affinity groups, or business network groups) are voluntary groups of employees who join together in their workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences and serve as a resource for members and organizations by fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with organizational mission, values, goals, business practices, and objectives.
ERGs have traditionally been focused on personality traits or characteristics (women, religious affiliations, sexual orientation, gender, etc); however, ERGs have expanded to include "interest-based" groups gathered around particular activities. Some of these include job responsibility, environmental advocacy, military service, community service and volunteerism, and workplace wellness.
ERG's are generally based on providing support, enhancing career development, and contributing to personal development in the work environment. They are instrumental in the recruitment, development and retention of talent, employee engagement and environmental advocacy, community service and volunteerism, and workplace wellness.
The Association of ERGs & Councils offers development courses to provide Employee Resource Groups with the tools, skills and capabilities to excel...from start up to ongoing progression as a strategic business and organizational resource for change. These four distinct training experiences address every conceivable need of ERG's as they seek to develop to higher levels of capability.
